This cultural and historical day trip combining Fort Jesus that was buit by the portugueese , Mombasa Old Town, Swahili architecture, the Old Port, local markets and coastal cuisine. 

Pick up from your hotel in Diani and begin the journey towards Mombasa. Drive through the coastal countryside towards Mombasa Island, enjoying views of local villages and coastal settlements along the way. Arrive at Fort Jesus, one of Mombasa's most important historical landmarks. Built by the Portuguese between 1593 and 1596, the fort was constructed to protect the port and control the Indian Ocean trade routes.

Explore the fort's courtyards, ramparts, museum exhibits, cannons and historic structures. Your guide will explain the Portuguese, Omani and British periods and the role Mombasa played in Indian Ocean trade. Enjoy panoramic views towards the Old Harbour and surrounding Old Town.Later, leave the fort and enter the historic streets of Mombasa Old Town. Walk through the narrow streets and admire the distinctive Swahili, Arab, Indian and colonial architectural influences. The area is particularly known for its beautifully carved wooden doors and traditional balconies. Walk along the main streets of Old Town for scenic views of traditional Swahili buildings, carved doors, small shops and local businesses while learning about the history and culture of the Swahili people.

Visit a local market where you can see and, where appropriate, purchase coastal spices such as cloves, cardamom and cinnamon. There will also be an opportunity to experience traditional Swahili coffee or enjoy a local snack such as mahamri.

Proceed later to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in or around Old Town. Recommended dishes can include Mombasa biryani, pilau, seafood, samaki wa kupaka, chapati and fresh tropical juice.

Continue exploring Old Town, with stops at selected historic buildings, mosques and traditional houses from the exterior. Your guide will explain the area's Swahili heritage and the influence of Arab, Indian, Portuguese and British communities and more, have the opportunity to do shopping at pleasure for  locally made handicrafts, fabrics, spices and other coastal products.

 Depart the old town in the late afternoon for your journey back to Diani with drop off at your hotel or lodge, marking the end of your Mombasa historical and cultural excursion.
